'UNIS' Towers in Sarajevo and Yugoslav brutalism architecture
30 years after the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, there are still symbols and signs of the Yugoslav and communist period legacy.
In fact, much of the modern "Bosnian identity" regarding music, arts, literature was shaped during the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Cold War period. This is also manifested through the "brutalist" architecture style popular in Yugoslavia during the 1960-1980s.
In this screenshot, you can see the 'UNITIC' Towers, originally the 'UNIS' Towers, and also popularly known as "Momo & Uzeir" designed by Sarajevo-based architect Ivan Štraus.
The towers have a lot of history touching different spheres as an economy since UNITIC was an abbreviation for Sarajevo and Kuwaity City-based companies cooperation, identification due to symbolism of multi-ethnic society and "common life" in Bosnia and Sarajevo, optimism, and feelings of progress after the winter Olympic games in 1984.
Today, symbols of globalization and interconnectedness are placed on the towers.
